What’s Going On?
A few weeks ago, I went to Virgin. There was a “everything must go” sign as the franchise is closing its stores. It was the last day, so there was not much left (why am I always the last one to be in on great bargains?) I came across a huge bin with lots of stuff and a few CDs.
It felt a little weird. The last time we bought a CD at the house was in December 1994: Merry Christmas by Mariah Carey. That’s when Mariah was Mariah (if you know what I mean). I think it is also in the 90s that my internal music clock stopped. What you should know is that in terms of music, with a few exceptions, I’m kind of an archaic dinosaur who only listens to the old. I’m anti-new, anti-hits, I don’t know R&B as R&B but as New Jack… and I still believe that NKOTB are still cool (What!? You don’t know NKOTB! Were you not born then? Me neither!) What’s funny with this band is that they all had an unlikely attitude R. Kelly style while their choreographies were ridiculous… I LOVE it!
Anyways, since CDs were 50% off, I thought it was time for me to sneak back into the ordinary. For safety measures, I chose Usher. I still remember his “U make me wanna” and “U remined me”… A safe bet. I went home, sweatpants, T… ready to clean the apartment to music that motivates.
Well… Inconceivable! This is not a R&B CD. It’s House Music! A ride on Grooveshark later, I got a revelation. Usher has indeed started to sing in a pipe and he is not the only one.
Here is the million dollar question: can someone tell me when David Guetta decided to put a bid on all R&B singers? Since when R&B singers have converted to House music? And where was I when it happened? It’s not that I have anything against House music or David Guetta but it’s just crazy!
All that to say that my attempt to exposing myself to today’s music has failed. While waiting for things to get back to normal, here is a short excerpt from my current playlist.
Ps: I assure you that I listen to more than just R&B Thank God! Next playlist coming soon…
How about you? House or R&B?
